Originally, the church was going to write us a check for a couple hundred dollars to support our adoption efforts. However, the missions team came up with the idea to use that money to purchase BBQ, plan a fundraising event for us and allow God to use people to multiply that money. This would allow for everyone in the church to be involved and even family, friends and people in the community to come and give as they saw fit (it was open donations).
The BBQ was set, awesome flyers went out, people spread the word and we were getting excited! Then, one day one of our church family members, Steven McKee, was talking about our adoption and the fundraiser with some of his co-workers. One of those co-workers, Dave Hunter Jr., jumped up and said he wanted to help. He wanted in. He believed in what we were doing and he wanted to bless us and be a part of bringing our son home.
Dave just so happens to own a catering business, called D&D Do All Catering out of Marrero, LA. He specializes in on site BBQ's and Boils. Our jaws literally dropped to the floor when we found out that Dave wanted to DONATE all of the food, plates and utensils. We didn't even know Dave, he had never met us, but here he was stepping up to a calling, taking part in an orphan's story, blessing our family by using his gifts and talents.
So, yesterday rolls around and it was HOT outside. Dave and Charlie (the assistant caterer) were already at church starting to cook up some deliciousness when we got there at 9 am. After church service, wonderful smells of delicious food were wafting up the stairs of the Maritime Museum. We all headed downstairs under the Museum (thankful for the shade) and loaded up on some amazing food including: BBQ ribs, BBQ chicken, crawfish etoufee, baked beans, fried chicken and brownies. It was DELICIOUS! Dave and Charlie were working their tails off in the hot sun and doing it with the humble hearts of servants. They were such an amazing blessing that day and showed what a heart of generosity looks like.
At first, the crowd was small, but over the span of 2 hours, people just started showing up and giving. Extended family that I have not seen in years, a fellow adoptive family, friends of my parents from my childhood, friends from out of the city & out of the state, complete strangers, friends from other churches, friends that believe in what we are doing. It was AMAZING to see all of these people come together to show their love and support for our family and our son.
I went into this event thinking we would maybe make $500. God could certainly double the money we would have received via a check right? But y'all, God moved and was much bigger than that. Since
D&D Do All Catering donated all the food, everything from yesterday was profit. We also sold our adoption tees at the event. So here it is, our total profits from the day between food, donations and shirt sales was.......................
$2,547
WOW! WOW! WOW! That means we are now 1/3 of the way to our overall fundraising goal!
I am still blown away when I look at that amount. God didn't double the money, he multiplied it 10 times over! What an amazing God we serve! We cannot say thank you enough to everyone who showed up yesterday and GAVE. We are so thankful and in awe of your hearts and your support.
A big thank you to Bridge Church, D&D Do All Catering and the Bridge Church Missions Team. All of your hard work really paid off and we are so grateful. Thank you for loving us and blessing our family.
Here are some pics from the day. Also, be sure to check out Dave's Catering info below the pics for your next catered event, especially an on site BBQ or Boil. Your belly will be glad you did.
The wonderful mission's team and D&D Do All Catering put this whole event together.
D&D Do All Catering hard at work. These guys were amazing!
Here are a few pictures I captured from the day. Wish I could have gotten one of everybody there, but eventually, I got hungry.
Oh, and check out these beautiful prayer cards that our friend Melissa made for people to stick on their fridge as a reminder to pray for our family and our son throughout the process. We still have LOTS left, so if you would like one, let me know.
